Pastor Jimmie Roberts:
Hello, my name is Jimmie Roberts. I am the current pastor at Rockford Baptist Church as of 2025. So far, it has been an absolute pleasure serving in the Rockford, MN community, and I look forward to years of service to our community.
My family and I:
I am 34 years old, married to the love of my life, Shelby Roberts. We have 5 kids: Isabella (12), Ryahlynn (10) Laiyana (8) Elijah (5) and Shailah (4). We are originally from Mississippi. Through the calling of God, we left our home and all that we have ever known to pastor a church in Minnesota in 2024. As a family, we believe in the power of prayer and placing God as the head of our lives. We enjoy serving others in our service of God. We are a biblically, conservative family that holds the truth of God’s word as the guidance of our lives in hope of our lives being a light in the darkness of this world.
My testimony and what drives me:
I am one of those kids whose family was divided by multiple denominations. Growing up, I was in and out of church, going to different places most of the time. I heard different members of my family telling me that the others were wrong, and throughout my childhood, I saw all of the fighting and came to not believe any of it. By my teenage years, most of the people who were so faithful in going to church stopped going all together, and some of them who were leaders in the church denounced God completely. By the time I was 9 years old, my parents stopped attending church all together. By the time I was a teenager, my family was torn apart by fighting, drinking, drugs, both mental and physical abuse, and my siblings and I were separated- some to other homes, but I was placed in the system where I spent most of my youth going to a different place every few weeks for 5 years. I never knew a normal life nor what it was to even have friends. When I was 16 years old, I had my parent sign a waiver, so that I could enlist in the army. Right before my 18th birthday, I headed off to the army. When I got off of active duty, I came home and was around my family again. I slipped headfirst into a life filled with drugs and drunkenness where I stayed. My life was consumed in anger and hatred blaming everyone else for my problems and my mistakes. I hated myself, my life, and everyone around me. Around the age of 22, I heard the gospel preached, and it opened my eyes to the state of being I was living in. From there, I lived a life full of confusion and knowing I needed change in my life, but I was completely unwilling to surrender control of my life over to Jesus. I was tormented daily by conviction over all the lies, the stealing, the fornication, the drunkenness, the cheating, and so much more. I lived a life full of sin and misery. I tried for years to stop all of the things I was doing, but I couldn’t. I felt trapped between the bondage of my sin and flesh and the convictions of God over every point in my life. I wanted to be set free, but I wanted it to be on my terms. In the end, I realized that I couldn’t win, that I couldn’t overcome my flesh. One night, I found myself broken to the point that I wanted to die, and I did die. I was broken to the deepest parts of myself where I found myself crying, “God, if I can’t be the man you are calling me to be, if I can’t be the husband your calling me to be, if I can’t be the father you are calling me to be, overall, if I can’t be the servant that you’re calling me to be, then I would rather you take the breath from my lungs, than I would continue in this life of rebellion and misery.” And that night, I died. He didn’t take the breath from my lungs, but he torn out my heart of stone and gave me a new one. He took away my sin, and the person who laid on the ground crying out to God that night was not the person who stood up off the ground. My whole life belongs to Christ now, and I am the happiest and richest man in the world now full of love, compassion, mercy, and grace. Some ask me what drives me, and it is this: I want everyone I meet to know the freedom that I have found. I want everyone I know to see the saving power of God in my life. I want to be a true light, leading others to see my God and how awesome He truly is.
